Knitting & Crocheting Outreach Ministry

UPDATE as of November 20, 2020

Please be advised that, after 14 very fruitful years, the Knitting and Crocheting Outreach Ministry has now dissolved, in large part due to issues surrounding the current COVID-19 situation.  We’d like to extend our most sincere thanks to the entire parish family who helped us touch the hearts of so many people with God’s Gentle Love – from those who wove their own personal prayers into the handmade articles as they made them; to those who donated yarn and other materials; and those who packaged the finished articles and prepared them for distribution; and those who created beautiful artwork to accompany our ministry’s message of Christian outreach enclosed with every article; and each parishioner who added their personal prayers during the blessings; and especially to Father Michael for his beautiful blessing of the articles – please receive our very deepest thanks.  With your help, the Ministry has distributed a grand total of 5,896 articles bearing God’s Healing Grace!

The Parish Office has a few articles if someone is in need.

Mission Statement:

To help anyone struggling through a time of transition, crisis, or need by providing them with blessed, handmade, knitted and crocheted garments which are intended to be a physical reminder to the persons receiving them that they are being covered in prayer and wrapped in God's love.

Who is given a garment and how is it given?

The articles are “handmade with love” and are donated to nearby organizations serving people in need.  The Ministry is also open to individual requests for assistance.  Please let us know if you are aware of any person or organization in need of our assistance.

A card will be enclosed explaining that the garment was made by The Knitting and Crocheting Outreach Ministry and that the garment was blessed during Mass.

Some of the organizations we support include Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, the Visiting Nurse Association, AMVETS Heroes on Wheels Program, F.I.S.H., Family Strides, Two Hearts Pregnancy Care Center, Carolyn's Place in Waterbury, Connecticut Junior Republic, and The Gathering Place.

The articles we provide include booties, sweaters, caps and blankets for babies; sweaters, hats, mittens and scarves for children; ear warmers, hats and scarves for adults; lap robes for those who are wheelchair-bound, as well as prayer shawls for anyone in any type of need.

Donations of handmade articles as well as materials such as yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks can be left in the foyer of the church in the receptacle for the Knitting and Crocheting Outreach Ministry.  Financial donations to the Ministry can be made payable to the church with a notation on your check that the funds are “for the Knitting and Crocheting Outreach Ministry”.

For questions, please contact the Parish Office at 860.379.5215.  Thank you.

Note:  Knitting or crocheting can be done at your own convenience.  There is no formal membership.  Anyone who wishes may join us when we gather together in fellowship once a month (we do not meet during the summer).
