Pentecost Sunday

My Dear Friends,

Fifty days ago we celebrated the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ten days ago we celebrated the Lord’s Ascension onto Heaven. Today we celebrate Pentecost, the sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all believers. The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.

He is the Sanctifier for he is the one who through the sacraments makes the sacraments efficacious. He is the bond of love between the Father and the Son. He is the Spouse of the Virgin Mary, for Mary conceived of the Holy Spirit and the Annunciation when she replied to the Archangel Gabriel, “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to thy word.” Some symbols of the Holy Spirit are fire and wind. The Holy Spirit is alive in the hearts of all believers and in the heart of the Church. On this Pentecost Sunday, let us continue to ask for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our families and our parish. Come, Holy Spirit, enkindle in the hearts of our faithful the fire of your love.
