Independence Day

My Dear Friends,

It is hard to believe that we are coming up on July 4th. The Revolutionary War, or the War for Independence, is our history as a people and as a country. We, the United States of America, have been at war with many countries ever since, with occasional years of peace between the conflicts and wars. We will continue to be at war for many years to come, as long as we remain a country.

I say this because throughout civilization from the very beginning men have gone to war. It is for that reason that we honor all of our military personnel as they prepare themselves for the time when they may be called upon to engage in war with other countries. And it is also a time for us to reflect upon and honor those men who fought during the Revolutionary War, for these men were responsible for the beginnings of our country; men like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Paul Revere, Ben Franklin, John Hancock, Thomas Paine, Charles Carroll, Samuel Adams, Oliver Wolcott and Alexander Hamilton. Our country would never have flourished and continue to exist if it were not for these men and their courage during those early years. These men gave us our form of government, a Constitutional Republic.

When we have our picnics and our fireworks, let us remember that the United States of America is a country in which we can take pride. And let us pray that our country remains the land of the free and the home of the brave. Happy Fourth!! God bless!
