A Journey through Salvation History

My Dear Friends,

As I mentioned at Mass last week, I am beginning a Lenten series on Scott Hahn ’s book, A Father Who Keeps His Promises. It is a book on Salvation History and God’s covenants with his people. The five Old Testament covenants begin with Adam, then Noah, Abraham, Moses and David. The New Covenant is with Jesus Christ. The question that surrounds Jesus is “Why did Jesus have to die?” By following Salvation History and the five covenants of the Old Testament, we will come to the answer of that question.

My homilies at Mass during the Sundays of Lent will roughly follow these same covenants. The first Sunday of Lent I will begin with Adam and Noah together. The second Sunday will be Abraham, and the third Sunday will be Moses. The fourth Sunday will be David and the exile and the fifth Sunday will be the promise of the New Covenant in the Book of Jeremiah. Finally, on the sixth Sunday, Palm Sunday, we will wrap up with the culmination of Salvation History and the final covenant, the Lord ’s Supper.

On the Tuesdays during Lent, we will be able to go through the six covenants in order, following the book. On the first Tuesday, we will be reading chapters 1-3. The second Tuesday will be chapter 4. The third Tuesday will be chapters 5-6. The fourth Tuesday will be chapters 7 -9. The fifth Tuesday will be chapters 10-11, and the sixth Tuesday (of Holy Week) we will finish with chapters 12-13.

We should be live streaming the talks for those who do not have the time to come to the social center, and I believe that the talks will be available to watch over again on the YouTube channel that we have made for this occasion.
