Archbishop ’s Annual Appeal

by Fr. John Granato  |  02/18/2024  |  Words from Fr. John

My Dear Friends,

It is the time of year again for the Archbishop ’s Annual Appeal. Last year we made 94 percent of our goal. That is amazing!! And we did that with only 20 percent of the parishioners who donated money. This year, our goal is the same as last year. Archbishop Blair is beginning the appeal, but very shortly, when he retires, Archbishop Coyne will be inheriting the appeal.

Let us as a parish show Archbishop Coyne that we are a vibrant parish community. What better way to welcome Archbishop Coyne as our chief shepherd in the Archdiocese of Hartford than to show him that Our Lady of Hope will support him with our prayers and, for those who can, support him financially.

Lent is a time for us to pray, fast and give alms. There are many opportunities to pray, and to increase our prayers in our spiritual life, by attending a daily Mass and by attending the Stations of the Cross. We also have the forty day Lenten reflection books from the Magnificat. We can pray a rosary or for those who pray a rosary maybe add a second rosary. The saints have also encouraged us to read and meditate on the Passion accounts in the four Gospels.

Fasting, besides from food, is a way for us to grow spiritually as well. We can fast from social media, from television, and from the internet. Of course, fasting from food is the best way to help strengthen us in the spiritual battle.

Alms giving is also beneficial. If you go to Dunkin Donuts every day, even by fasting from one cup a week, you can save at least eighteen dollars that you then can give to charity. God bless.
