The Most Holy Trinity

My Dear Friends,

Today we commemorate the Name of our God, who is Father, and Son and Holy Spirit. This is one name for three persons. Within the one Godhead, the three persons are united in love.

The Father loves the Son, and the Son returns that love, and the bond of love between Father and Son is the Holy Spirit. Within these persons, one can say that the Father is Creator, the Son is Redeemer and the Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier. But the Father does not do anything separate from the Son and Spirit; the Son does not do anything separate from the Father and Spirit; and the Spirit does not do anything separate from the Father and Son. The essence of the Trinity is that the Trinity is a God of Love; that is, a God who loves Himself, but not in a narcissistic way. Rather, the love within the Godhead is a dynamic love that God deems worthy to share with his creation. God does not need creation. He creates because he wants to share his love. He made man in his image and likeness; male and female he created them. It is precisely because of the maleness and femaleness that we come to share in the procreative power of new life when the man’s seed fertilizes the woman’s egg. At this moment of conception, we are imprinted with the image of the Trinity, and we are called to protect this image of God made present in the new life of the child as he grows within the womb of his mother. Because of Original Sin, men and women have a difficult time expressing this Trinitarian love in their relationships, but with grace and the help of the sacraments, we can rise above our sinful tendencies and truly image the Love of God in our Love for Him and for our neighbor. God bless and may God be praised, Father, and Son and Holy Spirit.
